Cave Dance
Cave Dance revives ancient Buddhist dance forms depicted in the murals of Dunhuang’s cave shrines, one of the world's most significant cultural heritage sites. These murals, created between the fifth and fourteenth centuries, illustrate celestial dance scenes, widely regarded as some of Dunhuang’s most iconic artistic achievements.

This project uses motion data collected from both static mural drawings and the motion capture of professional dancers to train a machine-learning model.
Using AI-generated choreography based on sequences of x, y, z coordinates from both static mural drawings and motion capture, the artist creates animated 3D rendered visuals with Unity, openFrameworks, and Embergen. This human-computer collaborative process breathes life into ancient dance forms, transforming them into dynamic digital installations.
